As a client of a firm using Monograph, creating a free Monograph account gives you a dedicated space to view your projects and manage invoices and payments. This article walks through the Projects Overview page, explains how to understand each project’s financial progress, and shows how to quickly access related invoices and proposals.
To note: A free Monograph account can be created after paying an invoice sent by a firm using Monograph. Click here to learn about paying a project invoice.
🚨 Note: Paid Monograph subscribers can access these client-view details by navigating to Invoices > Invoices Received in your own dashboard.
Projects Page
The Projects page list is automatically generated based on the projects shared with you by the firm you are working with.
How projects appear: Projects are added to the list as soon as you receive a proposal or an invoice for that specific project.
Sorting: Projects are sorted by the most recently shared activity. This ensures that the project requiring your most immediate attention is always at the top of the list.
Project Overview
Click into a specific project to open the Project Overview page and view relevant information related to the project. The top of the page will show the Gantt chart, which includes a comprehensive breakdown of that project’s status and phases. Depending on the project's progress, your view may include Invoices, Retainers, and Proposals.
Invoice Overview
The Invoice Overview tracks the status of all project invoices. The overview displays real-time counts for Paid, Past Due, and Open invoices. This allows you to quickly identify which payments are complete and which require your immediate attention without opening each individual document.
💡Invoices Link: Clicking the Total invoiced purple link will open a new browser tab. This tab shows a list of all invoices specifically filtered for that current project.

Retainer Overview
If the project includes a retainer, the Retainer Overview will help track your balance. This section displays the Total Paid (the total amount you’ve contributed to the retainer), the amount Applied to previous invoices, and any Remaining balance available for future billing.
Project Progress
The Project Progress section helps you visualize the project's financial health. It compares Invoiced Amounts against the Planned Budget (rather than time logged by the firm).
Fixed Fee Phases: Shows a progress bar comparing the amount billed to date against the total planned amount for that phase.
Hourly Phases: Because hourly work varies, these phases are treated differently; they will simply display the total Invoiced Amount to date.
Proposal
Within the Proposal page, you can review and manage any project agreements sent by a firm. This page displays any proposals that are pending acceptance. To move forward with a project, simply type your name as shown in the confirmation box and click Accept Proposal.
🚨 Verification Required: To ensure security, a verification email will be sent to your email inbox immediately after clicking accept. You must click the link in that email to finalize the acceptance and proceed with the project.
Once a proposal has been signed and accepted through Monograph, it will remain accessible directly on the Project Overview page for reference. Clicking the View Proposal link will open the document, allowing you to review it at any time.
