Why did you change the navigation?
We updated the navigation because, after a few years of using the same navigation interface, it was time for a refresh. We needed a renovation to streamline the site and give us future opportunities for growth.
Some improvements that we've made are:
Only vertical menus: The previous combination of vertical and horizontal navigation was more difficult to scan than vertical navigation. Vertical navigations also work better on mobile devices for pages like timesheets.
Up-to-date organization: We had developed a lot of features since the old navigation was originally designed, and we needed to find better ways to organize these features so that they made more sense.
Reduced duplicative pages: The old navigation had duplicative pages rather than supporting direct links to purpose-built pages (e.g. Project Time Log vs Organization Time Log).
Why did you remove the project-specific pages for timesheets, time log, invoices, etc.?
We had a number of pages that included the same information, which left opportunities for data to be out of sync. Moving to linking between pages with filters pre-set was the easiest way to create single sources of truth. As a result, the project-specific pages for Time log, Expenses, Invoices, and Timesheets are now removed and are only accessed through filters on the main pages for this data.
Alternatively, while viewing a project, you can click on any of the links shown in the Project Tracker section and it will take you to the applicable report with the project's filters already applied.
Why did you remove the "Edit" button in the Project Planner? How do I edit a project?
We removed the Edit button from within the Project Budget page (formerly known as the "Project Planner") to simplify the editing workflow. We bundled the Project Planner (now "Firm Services") and Consultant Planner (now "Consultant Fees") pages under a single menu option renamed “Budget” and all project details under another named “Details”.
To edit a project, click on a project's name and then click on Budget in the sub-menu. Here, you can edit the Firm Services details, as well as the Consultant Fees details, as needed. To edit a project's general information, in the sub-menu, click on Details.
If we don’t have “Next” or “Done” buttons on project edits, how can I ensure my max hours are inputted automatically to Staffing?
We’ve updated the flow between the Project Budget page and Staffing to automatically rebalance hours. This is done whenever the max hours are changed in the Firm Services tab when viewing the Project Budget page. To note: this workflow will not overwrite any manually edited hours on Staffing.
Where did the Settings go?
Firm-wide settings are all located on a link which is available when you click on your profile and the bottom left of the page. The exception to this is that “Roles and rates” are no longer located within Settings and are now available in "Staff" to tie with your Team Directory.
Did any pages get removed with this change?
Yes, we removed pages where the same information is available elsewhere in the app. The removed pages include:
Project Specific Pages (Project Time Log, Project Expenses, Project Invoices)
The information from these pages can now be found by opening a project and referring to the "Project Tracking" section in the project's sub-menu.
Workload (Projects)
This information can be found in Staffing - Projects (Grow Plan only)
Workloads (People)
This information can be found in Staffing - People (Grow Plan only)
Legacy Dashboard
This information is available throughout the app, but primarily on the new Dashbaord in your profile.
How can I revert back to the old navigation?
There isn't a way to revert back to the old navigation. However, please don't hesitate to let our team know what you preferred about the old navigation and we will log your feedback.
